The Strathmore & District Agricultural Society was officially recognized as a Society, chartered under the Agricultural Societies Act of Alberta in 1975. Since that time, the Society has grown tremendously in terms of membership and contributions towards the betterment of recreational facilities and programs in the Strathmore area. In 1973, the Agricultural Society purchased a quarter section of raw land to the northwest of the Town of Strathmore limits to use for the development of recreational facilities. Various committees formed from the Agricultural Society membership, the Board of Directors and the general public have developed and completed the existing facilities on these grounds in the hopes of meeting the present and future recreational needs of the residents of the Town of Strathmore and surrounding area. Some of these facilities include baseball diamonds and dugouts, concession building, batting cage, quonset, horseshoe pits, rodeo arena and 5/8 mile Race track, announcers' booth and timers' area, 3500 seat Covered Grandstand, 49 site serviced RV Campground with washroom/shower, laundry building, RV waste Disposal Site, Elks playground, livestock building with wash rack, Outdoor Show Ring and extensive landscaping projects. Based on the Society's mandate, 14 acres was sold to the Town of Strathmore for $1.00 in order that recreational facilities could be constructed. In August 2000, the 903 Strathmore Air Cadets Squadron acquired a 24' x 36' building that was donated to the Society and located on the grounds.
