This year's parade theme will focus on Agriculture and our farmers. "Agriculture - Your Past, Your Present, Your Future." The Parade Marshall will be respresented by the winning County Farm of the Year.
Each award category has a panel of judges that review each entry in the selected category. Based on a list of criteria, they award points in many different areas, including safety. The scores are tabulated, and the top three entries are identified. The key contact for each entry must wear a ribbon provided by the Parade Committee. This is the only person who will be contacted by the judges. The key contact should discuss any pertinent information about the entry with the judges.
Any discrepancies in judging will be handled by the Parade Committee.
All judging of entries will take place on Saturday morning 7:45 – 8:30 AM. Participants not in their appropriate spot will not be judged. We reserve the right to place entries arriving after 8:00 am at the end of the parade and they will not be judged. Winners will be awarded at parade start and notice will be posted on SDCC web page following the Heritage Days weekend celebrations.
To catch the judges’ eyes, here are a few helpful hints that will make your entry appealing:
We are looking for a few good people to be Volunteer Parade Deputies and to help the Parade Committee with this important task on August 4, 2012.
Responsibilities of a Volunteer Street Deputy include ensuring that the parade viewers are safely behind the curb and that they are having a good time. Deputies are the "eyes and ears" of the Parade Committee, get help in case of medical emergencies and will act as witnesses in case of injuries or accidents. Those Deputies placed in intersections could be requested to part the crowds and clear the intersections for emergency vehicle access.
We hold one training and information meeting in late July and require all Deputies to attend. Positions are assigned at this meeting, information packages are distributed and presentations are given by Town Constables, EMS, Parade Committee Coordinators, etc.
This is a great opportunity for individuals and groups to volunteer for 4 hours and make a significant contribution to our community. If you would like to make yourself available as a Volunteer Street Deputy, please send an e-mail with the following information to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Looking for exhibitors who possess a positive attitude, professionalism and who also supply great service to their clients. The Western Trade Show is especially open to exhibitors who are from rural and small town settings.
